Open Gaming
This is what HandyCon is all about!
Bring along your shiny new hotness or dig out your old favourites and prepare to game the weekend away with your fellow board gamers. Play party games, heavy strategy games, 18xx or anything in between.
We have a large main open gaming area as well as several other rooms for tournaments and events. We also have use of the bar area and platformed area next to the restaurant.
Are you coming along on your own or do you just need some extra players? No worries! We have ‘Players Wanted’ signs for anyone looking to fill seats as well as a noticeboard for anyone looking to organise a specific game. Don’t forget that the HandyCon Facebook Page is also a good way to pre-arrange games before the event.
Games Library
In addition to bringing along your own games we also provide a selection of games in ever growing our library.
The games library is open to all HandyCon attendees free of charge for the duration of the convention.
The list of games available in the library will be posted to the respective pages for HandyCon January and HandyCon August.
Tournaments
Each HandyCon we run a few tournaments for a variety of different games. Some may require prior knowledge of the rules, whilst others are relatively simple to pick up and play.
In the past we have run tournaments for games such as Viticulture, Flamme Rouge, Baseball Highlights 2045, Pitch Car, 18xx and Scythe.
For details on how to register and the tournament schedules, please refer to the respective pages for HandyCon January and HandyCon August.
If you are interested in running a tournament at HandyCon, please email Rich Watney for details.
Events
Convention games (such as Two Rooms and a Boom), raffles, mini-games challenges and more!
Please see the pages for HandyCon January and HandyCon August for a full list of events.
Demos
We shall have demos of various games running throughout the weekend.
For more information please see the pages for HandyCon January and HandyCon August for a full list of demos.
Bring & Buy
Fallen out of love with an old favourite? Never taken that Kickstarter out of shrink? Bring along your unwanted games to the Bring and Buy! Get paid real cash monies and free up some shelf space for all the bargains to be had.
Each HandyCon, we try and raise funds for meaningful causes, and ask for a discretionary donation for each game sold in the Bring and Buy.
See the respective pages for HandyCon January and HandyCon August for more information on the causes being supported.
We also have a HandyCon Discussion Facebook group for those wishing to prearrange sales and trades.
Playtest Zone
Play yet to be released games and give your feedback to designers! For more information about playtesters attending the convention or if you are a designer and have a game you would like to playtest at HandyCon, please see the relevant pages for HandyCon January and HandyCon August.
