Go Sports Special Rules

This August, HandyCon’s cranking things up with our very own three-day "sports" competition — and every single one of you is already on a team. You don’t need to sign up. You don’t need to qualify. You just need to play games, join in events, and show your team spirit to earn points.

The team that racks up the most points will claim bragging rights… and you could also win a free HandyCon ticket in our prize draw.



Teams


Your team is locked in by your month of birth. No swaps. No trades. No excuses.

🟨 January – March ( Yellow )

The Great Western Trailblazers, led by Commander Frohnsdorff-Harris. Saddle up.

🟥 April – June ( Red )

The Kansas SETI Chiefs, with joint captains Danny Monticelli and Izzy FH. Eyes to the skies.

The Battlestar Galacticos, commanded by Jon “Buzz” Humphries. Engage warp drive.

🟦 October – December ( Blue )

The Castles of Mad King LudWigan Athletic, head coach Graham “Lasso” Pannell. Go Greyhounds.




How it Works

When you arrive, you’ll get a sticker in your team colour on your lanyard. From then on, everything you do could earn points for your team:


  • Playtest a game — points.

  • Win a game and log it — more points. (Honesty counts — don’t make us call VAR.)

  • Join in optional events across the weekend — that’s where the super points live.


Want to go all in? Mark your team colour on your planner, your Facebook profile picture… or your face! Wear clothing or accessories in your colours. The best displays of team spirit will also go into the prize draw.



Points Guide
  • Very Short - Up to 20 min ( 4 games in the Team = 1 point)

  • Short - 20 min to 1h ( 2 games in the Team = 1 point )

  • Medium - 1h to 2h = 1 point

  • Long - 2h to 3.5h = 2 points

  • Very Long - 3.5h to 5h = 3 points

  • All Day Game - 6h or more = 5 points


Extras:

  • Donation to the HandyCon-nominated charity ( £5 = 2 Points / £10 = 5 Points / £15 = 10 Points)

  • Playtesting + 1 point

  • Event participation + 1 point

  • Event win + 1 additional point

  • Do something awesome + 1 point

  • Invoke the spirit of HandyCon — 1 point (the spirit will be consulted)

  • Captain’s discretionary points (agreed with another captain)


All points are at the discretion of HandyCon management.



Reaching 700 Points


Once a team hits 700 points, they can enter the free HandyCon ticket draw for their members. Pop by Reception and add your sticker to the Leader Board to keep track.

So… which team will rule HandyCon?

…And then at the end, points will be converted into seconds (1pt = 1s), and each team captain in turn will be shut into a giant dome for that many seconds, as they grab fluttering shiny tickets from the air. But only if the bald guy from Rocky Horror is presenting, not the ‘new’ versions.
